2022 Chante Cigale Cicada Rouge
Cicada takes its name from famed ‘singing cicadas’ of Provence.
Alex Favier sources the grapes for his IGPs from family-owned land in the Vaucluse. Grapes for this come from two distinct vineyards in Travaillan, to the west of Gigondas. La Marteillère has clay soil and is used for Grenache, while L’Hers boasts limestone, making it ideal for Carignan. Vines here range from 30 years old.
The grapes are hand-picked and de-stemmed, and maceration in concrete is used for the Grenache, while aging in 5-year-old Burgundy barrels is employed to round out the tannins in the Carignan.
Tasting Note: Fresh ripe red fruits on the nose, flavours are more dark cherry with a touch of spice. The Carignan adds soul and spice to the vibrant Grenache, nicely balanced acidity with smooth tannins
