2022 Domaine Paul et Marie Jacqueson Rully Rouge 1er Cru Preaux

£37.00

Domaine Jacqueson’s 2022 Rully Rouge 1er Préaux marries ripe Pinot Noir fruit with graceful structure from one of the village’s finest parcels.

Hand-harvested grapes undergo cold maceration, indigenous-yeast fermentation and 12 months in 20% new oak, resulting in an elegant wine perfect for enthusiasts of refined red Burgundy.

Winemaking: Hand-picked fruit is sorted, destemmed and cold-soaked for 3–6 days before gentle fermentation and 2–3 weeks’ maceration. Ageing follows in oak barrels (20% new) for 12 months, with egg-white fining but no filtration.

Pairing Suggestions: Ideal alongside roast duck with cherry sauce, mushroom vol-au-vents or soft-rind cheeses.

Tasting Note: The nose offers wild strawberry, red cherry and a hint of forest floor. Silky tannins carry juicy red-berry flavours, underscored by gentle spice and a lingering earthy finish.

Origin: Rully, Burgundy, France

Blend: Pinot Noir

Domaine Paul et Marie Jacqueson

When Henri Jacqueson began bottling Rully wines in the 1950s, he couldn’t have foreseen the estate’s rise to Côte Chalonnaise prominence. Yet today Paul, Marie and Pierre Jacqueson cultivate 18 hectares with an almost obsessive attention to detail. Every cluster is hand-harvested in small crates, sorted on vibrating tables and treated sparingly in the vineyard. The result is fruit of rare intensity and purity.

In their gravity-fed cellar, native yeasts begin gentle fermentations and ageing takes place in a restrained proportion of new oak. The Blanc de Margotés shines with tight citrus and chalky drive, while reds from Préaux and Les Cloux marry crunchy red fruit with supple structure. In every cuvée, the wine’s origins, with its sunny slopes of brown limestone and clay, speak clearly, thanks to the Jacquesons’ steadfast commitment to authenticity.
