Pepe, Jose Antonio Canada Gil, inhabits an almost otherworldly place, separate from the trappings of modern life and its effects. His cellar stands atop the Minho, snaking its final 45km from the Atlantic into a valley of evergreen foliage and vine. Nature's majestic granite-hewn feat coaxes one to gaze out over the Penede Geres National Park in Portugal. Thus, it is no marvel that Vega Sicilia chose this spot to construct a new cellar and secure some vineyards (though, with a sly grin, Pepe makes sure to mention his are the top-notch ones).

Jose cultivates 5 hectares across 23 plots located near the town of Crecente, where he was born and his family remains. His former profession as a metalworker on specialized oil jobs in Spain and Scotland furnishes his formidable stature, while his bright grin and kindly attitude reflect the delight he has found in wine-making. Historically, his kin have been vintners; however, he is the inaugural individual to bottle his own label in 2016.
