2023 Domaine de Boischampt Beaujolais Jullie Blanc

£22.00

This vibrant Beaujolais Blanc is a revelation: crisp, aromatic and beautifully mineral, showcasing the unexpected elegance of Chardonnay on blue-stone soils.

At Boischampt’s 14 hectares of marl-limestone terroir, three hectares of Chardonnay were planted in 2019, breaking from Gamay tradition. Hand-harvested and certified organic, the grapes capture dawn’s freshness on the steep slopes of Juliénas.

Whole-cluster pressing and native-yeast fermentation occur in stainless steel, with no fining or filtration. After primary fermentation, the wine matures for four months in neutral oak barrels before minimal sulphur is added at bottling.

Jullie Blanc stands out for its bold choice of Chardonnay in Beaujolais and its natural-wine ethos, delivering purity and texture rarely seen in the region’s whites.

Pairing Suggestions: Fresh goat’s cheese, grilled sea bass or asparagus risotto.

Tasting Note: Bright green apple and lemon peel on the nose, with hints of white blossom. The palate is creamy yet taut, with peach, pear and a flinty mineral finish.

Origin: Beaujolais, France

Alcohol: 12.5%

Blend: Chardonnay

Domaine de Boischampt

Domaine de Boischampt is the story of an ancient estate reborn through passionate collaboration. Founded in 1642 on the blue-stone slopes of Juliénas, it was revitalised in 2018 by winemaker Antoine Romero alongside Yuko and Bob Harris, who brought Australian-Japanese fervour to this Beaujolais jewel. Their shared ambition, to see Boischampt certified organic and its crus shine with prestige, drives every decision, from biodynamic vineyard preparations to sulphur-free vinification.

Here, Gamay vines cling to steep granite foothills, Chardonnay flourishes on marl-limestone soils, and historic cellars meet modern stainless-steel tanks. Through intuition and meticulous work, the team crafts wines that celebrate terroir’s diversity: Juliénas, Saint-Amour, Fleurie, Chénas, Morgon, and Beaujolais-Villages red and white. These are all born of Roman-era soils and guided by a contemporary organic ethos.
