2023 Domaine Alain Chavy Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Charmes'

£79.00

Crafted from vines now in their seventies, this wine brings a refined richness and energy, with sweeter, juicier fruit than a typical Puligny.

Alain Chavy’s winemaking is a testament to his deep respect for tradition and terroir. The grapes are meticulously hand-harvested, with minimal intervention in the winery. Fermentation and ageing take place in one of the village’s deepest cellars, at a cool six metres underground. Minimal bâtonnage and a restrained use of new oak (usually around 15-20%) allow the vibrant character of Puligny's famed limestone soils to take centre stage, creating wines of purity, precision, and finesse.

Tasting Note: An elegant symphony of ripe orchard fruits, precision, and saline minerality, the 2023 Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Charmes' is a masterclass in balance. Its saline backbone enhances the vibrancy while maintaining a relaxed, open feel through to a long, silky finish. A Puligny with extra flair, perfect for both connoisseurs and curious newcomers.

Domaine Alain Chavy

Alain and his brother Jean-Louis spent years making wine together at their family's estate, Domaine Gérard Chavy, before going their separate ways in 2003. Alain's wines stayed true to his father's vision — pure, racy and delicate. The estate is now in the hands of his son Corentin, who has built on those foundations with a lighter touch: refining his father's methods and moving towards less, and more lightly toasted, new oak.
