Felton Road cultivates four plots of land, totaling 34 hectares, in the Bannockburn region of Central Otago. One of these plots, Block 2, is a gravel outwash fan facing east and situated on the Elms vineyard just north of Block 3. The soil is comprised of deep angular schist gravels, with a thin layer of loess on top. The utmost attention to detail is given to the canopy of the vines, ensuring uniform and early ripening of the fruit.

All tasks, including shoot thinning, positioning, leaf plucking, bunch thinning, and harvesting, are done meticulously by hand to guarantee the finest quality of fruit. Additionally, cover crops are planted between rows to promote vine balance, improve soil health, and promote biodiversity.

This Riesling hails from Block 2 of The Elms vineyard, where it was hand-picked and delicately pressed whole bunch. After settling for 3-6 days and racking, it underwent a 10-week slow fermentation with native yeasts, resulting in a near-complete dryness (3g/L RS). To add depth to the palate, the wine was aged on fine lees and bottled in early-September with minimal intervention, preserving and showcasing the delicate Riesling notes.

Tasting Note: The schist soils of Block 2 in the Elms Vineyard undoubtedly set the stage for this commanding Dry Riesling, infused with minerals. The bouquet is dominated by nashi pear, talc, and floral notes. A notable weight and power in the mid-palate exudes grandeur, enhanced by racy acidity that refreshes and tightens, ultimately leading to a sustained and impressive finish.
