2024 Niepoort Coche Branco

Coche Branco is Niepoort’s most exclusive white, combining high-altitude intensity with the finesse of century-old Rabigato and Arinto vines. It balances richness and freshness for remarkable ageing potential.

Sourced from 80+-year-old vineyards at 600–750m in the Douro’s coolest sites, Coche Branco epitomises Niepoort’s quest for altitude-driven precision. The name “Coche” denotes the vineyard’s old status and unique character. This wine’s greatness lies in marrying old-vine concentration with crisp acidity and layered oak complexity; an iconic Douro white built to age.

Winemaking: Hand-picked fruit is gently pressed, settled for 48 hours, then ferments in French oak barrels (50% new) of 228L and 550L. Partial malolactic conversion and 12 months’ barrel ageing impart both texture and vivacity.

Pairing Suggestions: Grilled sea bass, chicken in creamy sauce, vegetable lasagne or mushroom risotto.

Tasting Note: A white of genuine seriousness and poise. The nose opens with a subtle gunpowder reduction — a hallmark of the finest Meursault — before giving way to ripe peach, apricot, and the delicate sweetness of honeysuckle. Oak plays a supporting role here, beautifully integrated and restrained: vanilla bean and gentle spice add complexity without ever overshadowing the fruit. This is winemaking with a sure hand. On the palate, the wine is structured yet generous — impressive in its depth and texture. Stone-fruit richness is kept in check by vibrant, precise acidity that lends the wine real energy and definition. The finish is long and layered, mineral tension intertwining with soft floral and creamy notes in equal measure. A poised, age-worthy Douro white with unmistakable Burgundian inspiration.
