2019 Rockford Moppa Springs (Six Bottles)
For those in the know, Rockford is a by-word for classical, old school Australian winemaking. Based in the heart of the Barossa, the winery still opts for tradition, still using an old Bagshaw de-stemmer dating from the 1880s and a basket press from the 1890s.
Aged in a combination of American & French oak hogsheads, the prevailing undertones are soft, savoury, and spicy, with flecks of leather and ripe damson also playing a part. Given that this is one of the driest spots in the Barossa, the acidity-balance and concentration of fruit is commendable.
