**Museum Release** 2014 Niepoort Lote D, Bairrada

The Lote D is a very special terroir-driven wine whose every aromatic nuance reflects the deeply calcareous South-facing vineyard slope from which it was produced. With its light colour, low alcohol content and tremendous ageing potential, it is a tribute to the great Bairrada wines of the past. Dirk and Daniel Niepoort foster great passion for this wine and have therefore always harvested and vinified it separately. This is a father-and-son creation of great character.

The Lote D 2014 started off its fermentation process with a period of 4 - 5 weeks in stainless steel and then finished fermenting in a large 2500L wooden barrel. This is also where the wine completed malolactic fermentation and an ageing period of 20 months. It was bottled unfiltered.

Tasting Note: A crystal-clear ruby appearance shines through in the wine’s elegant and complex aromatic profile. The complex nose reveals hints of blossoms, spice, tobacco, as well as earthy - leathery notes with a backbone of dark berries and cherries. The palate boasts great precision, elegance and plenty of grip. Tight, profoundly complex and refreshing, with high acidity and noticeable but smooth tannins, this is a wine which will improve in bottle. A long and linear finish offers plenty of freshness. This 2014 has weight without being too alcoholic and it will be best enjoyed slightly chilled to around 15°C.
