Introducing Niepoort Bioma Vinha Velha Vintage - a highly esteemed addition to our portfolio. This Vintage pays homage to the "terroir" and the golden age of Port Wine, with a special vineyard (Vinha da Pisca) in the heart of Douro. Managed biologically and carefully selected, this vintage offers a taste of the past, similar to the English bottled Port Vintages of the 1970s. With majority of vines over 80 years old, Bioma "Vinha Velha" is truly a Vintage from a single vineyard.

Tasting Note: A concentrated, almost dark purple colour, with aromas of black pepper, spice and dark fruits such as plums and blackberries. Initially the palate is fresh with superb acidity and a wonderful expression of dark fruits, but follows through to a bold tannic mid-palate and finish, the sweetness and fruit very much dominated by tannin on the finish. This is a Port wine suitable for long cellaring.

Dirk Niepoort, part of the fifth generation, leads the family business, following the retirement of his father, Eduard Rudolph Niepoort. Since his studies in Switzerland, Dirk has been passionate about wine and has brought innovation to the traditional Niepoort brand.

Niepoort strives to maintain its status as a "niche player" by crafting unique ports and Douro wines that blend centuries-old customs with modernity. This combination also encompasses wine from two other regions, the Bairrada and Dão, which have contributed to shaping the Douro - Bairrada - Dão triangle. The newest points in this triangle also "deliver the goods" and hold a significant place for Niepoort, as they possess immense potential by combining the rich heritage of Portugal's winemaking history with the potential for innovation.
