2020 Rockford Moppa Springs GMS
The 2020 Moppa Springs from Rockford is a classic Barossa blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz, sourced from some of the region’s most demanding vineyard sites in Moppa Springs, Ebenezer and Kalimna. These dry, hard lands are exposed to frosty winters followed by hot, dusty summers, conditions that test the vines and coax them into producing fruit of remarkable character. The wine is matured in a combination of seasoned American and French oak hogsheads and large vats, a traditional approach that lends polish to the tannins while preserving vibrancy and depth.
Tasting Note: In the glass, the 2020 Moppa Springs is concentrated and richly coloured, offering aromas of red plum, tart cherry and a touch of earthiness. Subtle cocoa notes emerge on the palate, mingling with spice and brambly complexity. The texture is smooth and approachable, with the balance of fruit, tannin and acidity ensuring immediate appeal as well as the capacity for further evolution in bottle.
