2020 Rusden Driftsand GSM
Wine like so many others things is driven by fashion. In the 1970s all the big producers pulled out old Grenache vines because they weren`t seen as a quality option and often planted Cabernet instead. A few decades later it is understood that old Grenache plants can produce wonderfully complex and dense wines so some old vine material has been grafted back.
Tasting Note: From low yields in a warm, dry vintage, this year’s release of Driftsand is a charm. Full spectrum of aromatics with red fruits, some florals and underlying spice, most notably anise. Soft, juicy palate shows the concentration of a warm vintage with red currants, hints of cherry and a spice laden finish. Silk like texture, soft, subtle, and so damn drinkable.
Alcohol: 14.5%
Origin: Barossa, Australia
