2023 Maury Nature de Schistes Rouge

£18.95

Bold, Velvety, and Deeply Expressive

The 2023 Maury Nature de Schistes Rouge embodies the pure personality of Grenache Noir and Carignan grown on the region’s distinctive black schist soils. A hand-harvested, low-yield cuvée crafted with care, this wine delivers ripe black fruit aromas, luxurious texture, and a warming, silken finish. Its depth and intensity make it a true ambassador for the Maury terroir: rich, generous, and full of Mediterranean charm.

The result is a concentrated yet supple texture, with well-integrated tannins and exceptional roundness. Awarded Gold at the Grenaches du Monde 2025 and Silver at the Decanter World Wine Awards, this is a bottle that balances authenticity with excellence, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Winemaking:

Manual harvest followed by sorting and total destemming. Traditional vinification with long maceration, temperature control, fermentation using traditional red winemaking techniques with long maceration, and ageing for one year on fine lees to preserve freshness and depth.

Pairing Suggestions:

Pair with Boeuf Bourguignon, duck with olives, or coq au vin in winter; equally delightful with grilled lamb chops, ribeye steak, or smoky barbecue ribs.

Tasting Note:

Brilliant garnet in colour with intense aromas of ripe black fruits. The palate is warm, rounded, and silky, finishing with remarkable depth and smoothness.

Maury, Pyrénées-Orientales, France

Les Vignerons de Maury

From the unique soils of Cotes de Roussillon in Southwest France, bordered by the Mediterranean and Pyrenees. A combination of manly schist, with black marl, these nutrient thin soils encourage deep root growth resulting in intense, complex and perfumed wines. Lying in the northern foothills of the Pyrenees and just 30km inland from the Mediterranean, the tiny village of Maury boasts one of the oldest appellations in France, being established in 1936 and has cooperative viticulture at its heart.
